BASTOB Program:

BASTOB –Initiative for People’s Self-Development is a non-profit voluntary development organization working in the areas of institution building, income and employment generation, health, human resource development, education and promotion of culture and peace for the disadvantaged segment of the society especially for women, youth and children. BASTOB was established by a group of social workers in 1997. (MRA) License No. 01029-00170-00346. BASTOB has been implementing microfinance as a core program since 1998. BASTOB has 50 branch offices in Dhaka, Manikgonj, Munshigonj, Cox’s Bazar, Bandorban, Barishal, Narshingdi, Gazipur and Narayangonj  with about 62.397 active members. The insurance and health service facilities provided by BASTOB to its clients make the Microfinance program unique. The insurance facility supports the clients and their families to recover from shocks like death of family members, illness, etc. BASTOB has assigned health staffs, who are trained to provided health services to the target beneficiaries, with special focus on pregnant women, cleanliness, water and sanitation. BASTOB has been very active to respond during the natural disasters like flood, cyclone etc. The initiative includes distribution of relief materials, especially food support considering the need of the children and women. Presently BASTOB is receiving financial and technical supports from Anukul Foundation and PKSF.

BASTOB’s Mission is to ensure socio-economic development and self-reliance of the people while being consistent with organizational sustainability. BASTOB is committed to follow the ideals of people’s participation, institution building, human rights, gender equality, promotion of culture and care for the environment, poverty alleviation and people’s sustainability in achieving its goals.

Taking into consideration the fact that development work is a challenging job which requires the combined efforts of many participants involved in the process, BASTOB always encourages partnership and networking with government and like-minded organizations.

BASTOB has been blessed with experienced, energetic, and dynamic workers and members whoare committed to achieving its goals. It believes in people’s capacity and creativity, and also in participatory management and it is committed to ensure participation at every level.
